Concept

Context

Pump Apparel was a real direct-to-consumer fitness apparel project. The most interesting part of the product was not simply the storefront. Customers could choose apparel, enter their own custom text, and see that personalization reflected on the product in real time before purchasing. The personalization experience was built into the buying journey rather than handled manually after checkout.

Approach

Build the brand around identity and personalization rather than generic fitness clothing. The digital experience had two jobs: create desire through strong campaign photography and product presentation, and make personalization simple, immediate and trustworthy.

Decisions

  • Put personalization directly inside the buying experience.
  • Allow customers to enter their own text.
  • Show the customized design through a real-time product preview.
  • Let customers understand what they were buying before checkout.
  • Keep the customizer simple enough not to create unnecessary purchase friction.
  • Use strong campaign imagery to establish the brand.
  • Clearly structure men's and women's ranges.
  • Integrate social and influencer content into the storefront.

Delivered

  • Real-time text personalization
  • Live custom product preview
  • E-commerce website
  • Personalized product-buying flow
  • Brand and visual direction
  • Product and collection presentation
  • Responsive storefront
  • Social/content integration

Outcome

A direct-to-consumer fitness brand where customization was part of the core product rather than an afterthought.
